What is a MIME type?

A MIME type is the label a browser or operating system uses to identify a file's format (for example, image/png or application/pdf). It's reported by your system, so it reflects what the file claims to be — useful for a quick sanity check.

What does file size tell me about a download?

Size is a quick integrity sanity check: if your downloaded file is a different byte count than the publisher’s listed size, it was truncated or is the wrong file. Compare bytes, not just the rounded MB label.

Why does the same file show different sizes on different disks?

Cluster/block size rounds a file up to the nearest allocation unit, so the on-disk size can exceed the true byte size. The true size (what this tool reports) is what matters for transfers and checksums.
